PART 1 OF OUR SERIES ON GARDENING
|
Gardening spells are required to do any and all kinds of gardening. You need spells to create and destroy plots, tend to your plants, and spells can additionally improve your gardening quality of life.

You're going to need to know where you can train new gardening spells. Below is a gallery displaying the gardening trainers, their locations, and what spells & items they have available:
You can't garden without a castle, but depending on your goals, castles can help or hinder your progress. There are castles that are low capacity and high capacity, and castles that can increase your plants' growth speed. There is an appropriate choice to make based on your needs, but keep in mind that, at some point, you will most likely want both a fast growth and slow growth castle.
When you're just starting out, you'll want a house that isn't too expensive but will suit your low-level needs. High capacity houses are much preferred, but they're so expensive when you have so little gold to start off with. Fortunately, for you, there are some low-budget options for castles that will help kickstart your gardening journey.
If you're in a rush to get started, look no further than the Wooded Cottage. The outdoor space is small, so you will only be able to plant a 25 plot, but the indoor space is larger and you could fit at most, one 69 plot. You can purchase it from Buxley Turtleton in Wizard City.
|
This is the overall better choice for a temporary gardening castle. The outdoor and indoor space will allow you to plant at least one full 69 plot, ideal for growing Stinkweed to get even more gold! You can purchase it from Digby Hammershell in Krokotopia.
|
Once you have acquired a decent amount of gold, you'll want to start looking for permanent castles to grow your plants in. A house that can increase the growth speed of your plants is ideal for most growth strategies, and for the most popular seeds, such as Evil Magma Peas and Couch Potatoes. You have three options available to you for fast growth castles.
For the most affordable option of the three, look no further than the Red Barn Farm. For only 125,000 gold, you receive a luxury house with space for up to four 69 plots, and a boost to your plants' growth speed. You can purchase it from the Crowns Shop.
|
The Botanical Gardens will be cheaper to purchase than the third option, although it requires real money ($25). You will receive a luxury house with space for up to four 69 plots, and a boost to your plants' growth speed. You can purchase it occasionally from the Crowns Shop, or from the Evergreen Bundle Gift Card.
|
Currently the most expensive option of the three, as it is only available through a $39 Gift Card. You will receive a luxury house with space for up to four 69 plots, and a boost to your plants' growth speed. You can purchase it from the Fantastic Fairytale Bundle Gift Card.

Once you have acquired a decent amount of gold, you'll want to start looking for permanent castles to grow your plants in. A house that provides a large space but no growth bonus is ideal for growing plants in a slower and more controlled manner. These houses allow you to effectively reap the benefits of more mature harvests, or utilize strategies such as wilt-and-revive. This is especially important for many types of Ultra seeds. Your options for slow growth castles are very plentiful, but here are some that I personally recommend:

This castle has a couple gimmicks, but it is still a solid option for gardening, and a cheaper option if you're comfortable with crafting. You can fit up to four 69 plots here. You can purchase the crafting recipe from Buxley Turtleton in Celestia. |
If you want to reap the benefits of gardening consistently, you will need to create an efficient setup. This means creating a compact section of plots that can fit inside a large area growing spell. The maximum amount of plants that we can fit inside these large area growing spells is 69. In the past, creating a 69 plot required stacking, in which 23 plots were floated "stacked" on top of each other using boxes. This is no longer necessary thanks to the implementation of advanced movement. We can now cram 69 plots within the same layer, which makes interacting with and tending to the plants much easier. Follow the video embedded below to learn how:
How Plants Grow: Plants grow or get needs via state updates. State updates are, essentially, when the game checks and reloads objects or information based on specific cues/triggers, usually when a player enters a new area. You can use state updates to your advantage, and you will need to in order to preserve energy across the week.
- If you plant seedlings and then leave the house, and never visit that house again for a week, once you return, your plants will have only grown to the "young" plant stage. This means that your plants can only get needs or advance to the next growth stage once you or !!another player!! visit them.
- If you visit mature plants with needs and leave for at least 12 hours without tending to those needs, the next time you visit your plants, they will be wilting. Remember, plants can ONLY get needs, pests, or grow to the next stage IF you visit them.
- Castles have have two instances: outdoors and indoors. Plants that are grown outdoors will receive state updates once you teleport to your castle, but plants grown indoors will not receive a state update until you walk inside your house. Strategically planting seeds indoors or outdoors can be beneficial for growth and for preserving energy.
Taking Advantage of State Updates:
- You can tend to your plants, and then leave for days or even months and still come back to perfectly healthy plants.
- You can allow your plants to grow to mature, tend to all needs, then stop visiting the plants for at least 3 days and they will be at elder by your next visit. This is a popular strategy called "Elder harvesting," which you can follow if you do not want to waste energy on tending to a certain plot, or are not interested in the plants' mature harvests.
